1. Keep your CV short and clear. Make sure the CV is correctly structured with the most important information such as key skills and recent experiences need to be placed first. Sections you should include are:
Profile
Achievements
Education
Experience
Special skills
Interests
Referees
Your CV should usually be about 2 pages long and make sure you read it thoroughly to make sure you have not repeated yourself.
2. Make it look good. Clear, attractive presentation is a must. Ensure key points and sections stand out by using sub headings and bullet points. Keep the font size 12 so that it is easy to read and use good quality paper to print on.
3. In terms of your employment history list the most recent job first and work your way backwards. Include details of any gaps and don't go into too much detail of jobs held about 10 years ago.
4. Try to concentrate on your future and not your past, when describing your experiences and skills try and relate them to how they may help you in the future and more specifically the job you're applying for.
5. When describing previous job roles try to utilise facts and results which you may have achieved.
6. Always be honest and truthful, you do not want something where you've polished the truth to backfire at you in an interview.
7. Tailor your CV. Alter your CV slightly so that it promotes your qualities and skills which are best suited to the role you are applying for.
8. Be accurate and ensure you utilise spell check before you send your CV. You do not want an employer thinking you are unable to communicate efficiently if they spot your CV full of mistakes.
9. Send a cover letter and try and mention skills which are suited to the role in a little more detail than what is on your CV.
